Just Imagine
Imagine the feeling of pulling back that cool soil with your hands, the smell of earth drifting into your nose, as you drop that seed into the hole that you just dug. Then you gently push the dirt back over the seed, and move onto the next spot to do the same. Once you are finished, you grab your watering can (or hose) and pour a gentle shower of water over those seeds.
Whether you just planted French Marigolds or Summer Squash, as you look over your newly planted seeds, you relish in the anticipation of soon having little green sprouts that push their way up out of the ground.
You grab your seed packets, head inside, and do what? Where you do put your seeds?
Maybe you already have a place for them. Maybe you keep them in a jar in the refrigerator. Or maybe you have a cardboard box in the top of your closet. And if that is working out for you, that’s great!
I didn’t have that my first year of gardening. As I planted my seeds, I just put the seed packet wherever it landed. I think I set some on a shelf in my garage (where there is no climate control whatsoever, I might add). I had some on the kitchen counter. I probably even left some on a shelf in our bedroom for all I know. Wherever they were, they were NOT where I could remember them. Much less keep them organized.
A New Way of Storing Seeds
My second year of gardening was different. I had seen some posts floating around on social media showing people using photo storage boxes for their seeds, and it made all the sense in the world to me!
I love organization, and when I don’t have it, I struggle. So I ordered one of those photo storage boxes, a label maker, and those were two of the best purchases I could’ve made for my garden.
I knew exactly where all my seeds were at all times, and I could easily grab what I needed.
And guess what? A year later, I still know exactly where they all are.
So whether you still need to go buy your seeds, or you already have them, I wanted to share this with you in case you don’t already have a seed storage system. Or in case you don’t like the one that you have.
This photo storage box has 16 mini plastic containers inside that are the PERFECT size for seed packets. You can organize them however you choose, and once you get it set up the way that you like it, you will always know where to put your seeds, as well as where to find them – making your gardening experience a touch more enjoyable!
To Purchase This Storage System
You can find the box here*. There is also a colorful version* as well, if you prefer that!
If you don’t live near a Michaels, you can always order one from Amazon here*.
The super inexpensive label maker that I bought (and use all over my house to organize) is here*.
I hope that when you come in from planting seeds this spring, you now have a great place to put your seeds! Now you are ready to start making a list of the plants you want to grow in your garden!
